Please read below for full details on both courses.

BSc (Hons) Equine Dental Science
Introduction
Modern demands have created industrially-produced horse feeds that are quick and easy to administer, well balanced and highly digestive. With horses’ teeth being designed to grind down hard, dry, fibrous feed over long periods of time, pelleted, chopped or silaged feeds, due to their softer structure can lead to tooth abnormalities.
This exciting course offers you the opportunity to acquire specialist scientific and professional skills and knowledge applicable to equine dental health. The programme allows you to develop technical skills within the laboratory and skills important for handling, caring for and assessing the dental health of horses.
Content
Specialist knowledge of the pathology and treatment of dental disorders will be a key focus of this programme. Students who successfully complete the programme will be exempt from the written component of the BEVA/ BVDA Equine Dental Technician’s examination, but will still need to pass the BEVA/BVDA practical assessment (or equivalent).
Following completion of the programme you will need to undertake an extended period of work experience. This will enable you to develop your professional skills portfolio prior to undertaking the BEVA/BVDA practical assessment, if this is your chosen career pathway.
Learning and assessment
You will be involved in the discussion and evaluation of scientific literature/experimental protocols which may form part of module assessments. You will also be required to undertake a large amount of practical work experience in conjunction with your studies, working alongside a qualified Equine Dental Technician or Equine Veterinary Surgeon. During this time you will produce a professional skills portfolio which can form part of the assessment of the degree programme whilst also contributing towards the BEVA practical examination component of the Equine Dental Technician qualification.
